The adult swim program at Njswim
is designed to work with the individual to first acclimate them to the aquatic
environment. Next, a stepwise series of skills, promote a safer, more effective
swimmer. Finally, our adult swimmer is using swimming for a work-out. The foundation of the program is based
on the Njswimlearn to float philosophy.Adults may take a little longer to "warm up" to basic skills due to years of apprehension and muscle memory.Our program is designed to be adaptable
to each student and focus on the fundamentals of swimming while moving at a
pace that is comfortable to the student.
Level 1: Beginner:
30 Minutes-Private
The beginner adult class is
loosely structured to allow the teacher to work and focus on specific needs of each
student.The first few minutes of
the class are spent reviewing the student's history and expectations.This allows the teacher to better
understand the students' prior experience and develop realistic goals and a
timeline for success.
Skills Covered: Basic water acclimation skills; walking through the
water, letting go of the wall, breath holding, submerging, proper kicking, back
floats, kicking on front and back, breath exchange while kicking.
Level 3: Intro to Workout
Swimming:
30 minutes-Private-Semi Private
This class is designed for the
students who want to take their swimming to a "work-out" level while
still
receiving critical feedback for stroke technique.Students
should be able to swim backstroke, freestyle with
ease and have an understanding of breaststroke.Class
time will be divided into a mini-workout; warm up,
main set, and cool down.Pace
clocks will be introduced as well as interval swimming.
Skills Covered: Workout style swimming;
warm up, main set, cool
down, stroke drills, pace clock and interval training, endurance.
Level 2: Intermediate/Stroke
Technique and Endurance:
30 Minute-Private
This level is designed for
students who know the basics of swimming and need some help with proper
technique
and endurance.This class is
designed for students who can swim some freestyle and/or backstroke
without
much difficulty.This class will provide
students with proper drills, body position, and philosophy to become a
more
efficient swimmer.
Skills Covered: Buoyancy positions on
front and back, stroke
development for long axis swimming (freestyle and backstroke),
breathing,
timing and techniques, efficient pull and kicking for backstroke and
freestyle,
breaststroke, and endurance work.
Level 4: Intro to Master's swimming:
1 hour-Group of 3-6
This class is for students who
are looking to join a Master's swimming program or are looking for a real challenge.
Classes are one hour long and students swim between 2000 and 3500 meters.Each class will focus on a specific
stroke or event.
Skills Covered: Class will be treated as a Master's swimming
workout with emphasis on endurance, event swimming, pace clock and interval
training, stroke technique and starts/turns.
