Joe Oehme
Founder

Joe Oehme was born and raised in the New Jersey Shore area where he grew an affinity to all aquatic environments. Growing up "down the shore" provided Joe with the opportunity to engage in many  activities.  Fishing, boating, surfing, & swimming became second nature and he soon became an all around "waterman".

At age 16 Joe became certified by the American Red Cross as a Lifeguard and worked on an Ocean Rescue squad for 3 seasons. Working in this environment gave him a true appreciation and respect for water. At age 19 he became certified as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and began teaching at The Atlantic Club, the east's coast premier center for health education and recreation.

After only one year of teaching he was assisting with the Swim Team program where he soon became one of four coaches for age group swimmers ages 6-18 yrs. The following season Joe was given the position of Head Swim Team coordinator where he enjoyed 3 successfully swim seasons and introduced "Stroke Technique" courses for swimmers to enhance their skills and build endurance.

It was there where Joe was introduced to Pierre Gruneberg of France, who's innovative swim training and fear reducing techniques provided a new approach for adult swim instruction .  Joe incorporated "The Gruneberg" method into his own experience and developed a systematic desensitization technique in conjunction with his studies of fear and motivation as a psychology major at the Richard Stockton College New Jersey.
Upon graduating college, Joe's adventures  took him to the Golden Coast of Southern California where he taught and coached swimming while introducing his innovative instructional techniques and fear reducing methods. Joe was able to share his methods with adults while consistently assisting his students to overcome their fear of water and attain personal liberation.

Joe has since developed New Jersey Swim Schools and is sharing his methods with others while enjoying his time in and around the water.
