Our infant/toddler program is designed to provide your young
swimmer with a positive introduction into the aquatic environment.
Through our first series of lessons we will explore the water through
song and repetition. The parent child bond will help to build trust and
allow children to explore their aquatic potential in a non-threatening
manner. Our goal is to provide parents with the necessary skills to
assist in the child's aquatic development.
Tips for the Parents
Fears are developed when a child's healthy and
natural reluctance is responded to by an overreacted, well-intentioned parent.
Don't
minimize the reality of their fear
Don't
be overly impressed with their fears.
Don't
over emphasize re-assurances.
Don't
expect your child to be fearful of the water, as children will live up to
your expectations!
Don't
be a slave to their fear. (it is okay to ignore it sometimes!)
Do be
matter of fact and unimpressed with their fear.
Do
continue having a good time for yourself.
Do
have faith and show encouragement.
"Unable to communicate symbolically, infants employ the
emotional system as a primary means for monitoring themselves and modulating
their behavior in relation to theirs."
